The Educational Outreach Program is a part of the Illini Space
Development Society devoted to getting the public excited about the
possibilities of space. There are numerous ways that space development has
effected and is continuing to effect our lives. Our club gives classroom
presentations lasting between 30 to 45 minutes at local elementary and
middle schools, and at the Champaign Public Library.
Last spring a total of 11 presentations were given, nine in different
classrooms ranging from kindergarden to 6th grade, one at the Champaign
Public Library, and one at Discovery Place, a science museum for children.
We also had a booth set up at Engineering Open House last year for children
to build models of the space station and rockets out of materials such as
tin foil, paper, glue, and cups. The booth was quite a success.
